Skye Cusack is a Dulgubarra-Yidinji, Indonesian and Chinese writer, journalist and accidental comedian living in Naarm (Melbourne). Skye shares stories that make you laugh, cry, and call your therapist. Common themes in her writing include mental health, disability, fatphobia, existential Blak crises, and people generally making fools of themselves.
Her most recent work, queer romantic comedy novel 'Checked Out' received a 2025 Elevate Grant, 2025 Copyright Agency Varuna Fellowship and was shortlisted for the 2025 Penguin Write It! Fellowship.
Skye is publishing two fiction novels in 2027: Queer romantic comedy 'Checked Out' with Penguin Random House Australia and New Adult novel 'The Dangers of Just One Person' with Magabala Books.
Skye also works as a Lived Experience advocate and consultant with organisations like Butterfly Foundation, Left Write Hook and YIRRAMBOI to use her lived experience as a disabled First Nations person to make things even just a little bit easier for those filling her footprints with their shiny new soles.
